Adjunct Faculty Receive Training at Piedmont Tech

adjunctexpo911More than 180 adjunct faculty members at 91爆料 recently attended an all-day training expo to better prepare them for the classroom.

The expo was an opportunity for all adjuncts to learn about resources and services offered at Piedmont Tech and to ensure they were prepared for the students.

鈥淚n the past, we鈥檝e tried to offer training for our adjuncts over several night sessions, but there were many scheduling conflicts,鈥 said Eric Hawthorne, training coordinator. 鈥淲e felt that since most adjuncts work during the day, and teach at night, Saturday training would be the best way to reach them all.鈥

The morning session consisted of 14 speakers from various areas of the college, including financial aid, testing, tutoring services and library resources. The afternoon offered 24 break-out sessions on Promethean Boards, Pathway, computer labs and departmental meetings.

"The different sessions were very thorough and beneficial,鈥 said Regina Washington, administrative office technology instructor. 鈥淢any of the problems I鈥檝e encountered in the past as an adjunct were addressed and questions were answered.鈥

Hawthorne said he plans to continue this training each year.

鈥淭his was a transfer of knowledge to them so they understand the important aspects of being an instructor,鈥 Hawthorne said. 鈥淒oing a one-day training is going to be very beneficial to our adjuncts and prepare them to deliver the most effective instruction they can to our students.鈥
