Kenyan Morton and Camden Durant have several things in common. Both run a sub-5-second 40-yard dash. Both are McCormick High School athletes attending Middle College classes on 91����’s McCormick County Campus. Both are on track to earn associate degrees this spring, even before graduating high school. And both recently signed scholarship commitments to play football at four-year institutions. 

Morton plays free safety, and Durant’s position is inside linebacker. Both young men have enjoyed taking college courses at PTC. Already achievers on the field, court, and track, they found the transition to Middle College very navigable. 

“It’s a great experience to see how a college-based class could be,” Durant said. “It’s more in-depth and fast-paced than a high school class, so when I go to college, I will be more used to that.” This fall, he plans to study kinesiology at Limestone and become a physical therapist or even to attend medical school. Anything is possible. 

Morton noted that he always has known he would attend college one day and that the Middle College program was just a “smart decision.”

“I have been going to PTC in McCormick for two years now,” he said. “It’s a great campus, and I feel more prepared to go to college now.”

“The Office of Dual Enrollment at PTC is tremendously proud of Kenyan and Camden and the success they have garnered as student-athletes. They have displayed a level of excellence and discipline that is beyond their years. In doing so, they will now benefit from their choices for years to come,” PTC Dual Enrollment Director Chris Thomas said. “We thank Kenyan, Camden, and the McCormick County School District for trusting the faculty and staff at Piedmont Tech and allowing us to be a part of their journey. It is our hope that we can continue to inspire young individuals to take on the greater challenges and opportunities provided to them through the Dual Enrollment program in preparing the younger generations for greater success.”
