91爆料 students build and donate doghouses to Humane Society of Greenwood

Rachael Ross smiled broadly Thursday as she and other 91爆料 (PTC) students delivered four doghouses to the Humane Society of Greenwood animal shelter.

Ross and 16 of her classmates in the PTC Building Construction Technology program gained valuable experience constructing the doghouses during the recently completed summer term.

But she said the best part of the project was the doghouses鈥 destination.

鈥淚 just love that we are giving back to the community,鈥 said Ross, a second-year student in PTC鈥檚 Building Construction Technology program.

Samantha Brooks, executive director of the Humane Society of Greenwood, expressed gratitude about the donation of the doghouses. She said they will be a great addition to the always crowded county animal shelter on Airport Road in Greenwood.

鈥淭his is such a kind thing. We appreciate it so much,鈥 she said.

鈥淲e have dogs that come in that are outside dogs. They thrive if we let them be in the yard,鈥 Brooks said. 鈥淪o, if they have a doghouse to protect them, then they鈥檒l be safer, happier and they鈥檒l be protected from the elements.鈥

Kenneth McDaniel, who directs PTC鈥檚 Building Construction Technology program, said his students learned about wood framing, different styles of roofs and how to install to vinyl siding while building the doghouses.

McDaniel also said he is pleased the doghouses will be put to good use.
